Excerpt from Reflections book:

SILVER

Look how beautifully the chrome and glass intermingle in these buildings.

So, how do you paint chrome or silver or gold? Actually, you don’t. And I certainly wouldn’t recommend using metallic silver or gold paint out of a tube. You just paint the shapes that are reflected on the shiny metallic surface.

I would recommend that you isolate each color, with your piece of white paper with a ½-inch square hole in it, to figure out what it is. Mix them with your palette knife. Now paint the chrome surface like it is just a beautiful combination of shapes and colors. Don’t think of it as chrome. This relates to thinking of shapes, not objects.

Easy. Really. To remind yourself of this idea, think of the Lone Ranger, saying, “Hi, ho Silver, away!”
